Hello,
Thank you for stopping by our web-site. You have come to this page by clicking the "WARNING What you should Know" button. I feel it is important to let you know about Hart Dynamics and myself, but more importantly, offer you information that is either not available or inaccurate in the "press", through retailers, and on the net. My name is Peter Hart and I am the owner of Hart Dynamics. I have been playing drums for over 30 years, and have been developing Electronic Percussion devices since 1980. In 1981, I had a house gig with the best drums, mic's, and speakers available, and when I let people sit in on my kit, the drums sounded like cardboard. In hindsight, there were other factors involved, but the bottom line is: I wanted to gain more control over my drum sound. To get a good acoustic drum sound, you need :

1. A good drum tuned well (this varies by the minute)
2. A good (expensive) microphone with specific frequency response capable of handling high SPLwithout distorting.
3. Noise gates to get optimum gain and isolation.
4. Compression to limit dynamic range and/or achieve desired popular sounds. (punchy kicks and poppin' snares)
5. A good reverb to add ambience and/or effects i.e.; gated snare, gated kick, Phil Collins tom sound, etc.. An optimum reverb set up would be one for kick, one for snare, one for toms, and a global stereo for whole set ambience.
6. A parametric EQ is also not uncommon and used for notching out invasive overtones and enhancing selected frequencies to add presence to kicks, snares, etc.

There are many ways to mic drums and I am not here to debate with engineers, I am basically giving you an overview of how things are done in the "real world" of recording and sound reinforcement. Because of these requirements, the benefits of "triggering" and electronic drums should become quite apparent.

First of all, when you trigger, you are reproducing a perfectly recorded drum . This eliminates the need of microphone, noise gates and compression. You may then add compression for effects and reverb for ambience and effects. I do not recommend sampling with effects. this has to do only with sample time and proper truncation of samples. So, with an inexpensive module and a decent reverb, you can cover about 80% of all recording and live playing situations by triggering acoustics or playing trigger pads, and get that perfect drum sound every time. The more expensive modules currently available have reverb/effects built in , and multiple busses so you can apply different effects to different drums or groups of drums, so all you need is one box! Electronic drumsets are much easier to transport because of smaller size and lighter weight, And the same sound quality from an acoustic kit cost many times more than a good electronic kit. It is easy to see why Electronics are becoming more and more popular. I love acoustic drums and play an acoustic set every day, but they are difficult to say the least to keep in tune, and as you know, heads must be replaced on a regular basis. This can be quite expensive for the working musician. I also love electronic drums and play an electronic set everyday. Electronic percussion may be used to enhance or re-enforce acoustic drums, and I believe we have finally reached the point where the electronic set can emulate almost identically all of the nuance and feel of a complete drumset. I have always felt that drummers should not have to change their playing style to "adapt" to an electronic kit. You should be able to play exactly like you are playing acoustics, and with the latest improvements in hi-hat controllers, excellent cymbal and drum samples (as well as percussion), and innovative products such as our HART PROFESSIONAL and ACUPAD series drums along with our ECYMBAL electronic cymbals, we have achieved nothing less than amazing results.

This brings us to a very important issue: Hart Dynamics works very hard to manufacture the finest electronic percussion peripherals in the world and offer the widest selection of products. I personally have been designing electronic percussion products since 1981, and have been manufacturing electronic drums and trigger devices since 1989. I designed the drum systems that Rick Allen from Def Leppard has been using since 1991. I have probably designed more studio and touring set ups for some of the best drummers in the world than any other single individual. I am not trying to "blow my own horn" I simply want you to know that I personally stand behind every product we make, and you may contact us at any time with any questions or problems you might have, and we will help you.

I aspire to a Christian ethic, and when I was growing up, I wanted to be the best drummer in the world. Playing music is not a contest or sporting event. There are many GREAT drummers. If you think one person is "the best" this is simply your personal opinion, which you are entitled to. I might have a different opinion. My life has evolved so that my goal is to help every drummer be the best drummer they can be. It is not important to be "the best", it is only important to do your best. I feel very blessed to have been able to work with all of the wonderful people I have. Unfortunately, many of our products that have taken years of hard work and experience to develop, are being copied by other companies. I welcome fair competition, and it is obviously healthy for the marketplace, but blatant knockoffs and false claims such as Leading or #1 this or that, or originator of Electracoustic technology, are unfair and misleading to you. Many players have a "bad taste in their mouth" from using inferior, ill conceived, undependable and overcomplicated products, and we work very hard every day dispelling electronic percussion myths. Most of the writers that review electronic percussion products have less actual experience than you do. I can honestly say that I have never read an accurate review (Chris Judes review on our HPRO6.4 is very comprehensive, unsolicited, and accurate) on any manufacturers electronic percussion products, and I have never seen anything correcting misinformation that has been printed, other than the letter I wrote to Modern Drummer after printing erroneous information about our ACUPAD's many years ago. I have recently read a review that says a drumset manufactured by an electronic drum company is "as good as it gets". I am not interested in bashing other companies. Let me just say you owe it to yourself to check out available options. If you are not an experienced drummer and are not aware of the feel, accurate triggering, playabilty and durability of a quality electronic percussion system, there are many products that might suit your needs. Playing Music, and more specifically playing drums, is a very personal commitment. I suggest you try available options and choose the set-up which you feel is best suited for YOU. If you choose one of Hart Dynamics set-ups, you can be assured that you will not progress beyond the capabilities of our instruments, insuring your progress and development as a player will not be limited or sacrificed.

Hart Dynamics is the originator of Electracoustic® Technology and this trademark has been in use since 1989. HDI is also the #1 manufacturer of electronic percussion peripherals (electronic percussion instruments excluding modules) in the world. We have designed proprietary techniques for soldering components which is more durable than MIL SPEC (military specification) standards accepted by NASA. This is only one reason why our products are so durable. We have developed proprietary composites and materials used in manufacturing our products to assure the most extreme durability and accuracy. We have the lowest product failure rate of any company in the music products industry, and use the finest materials and processes available to manufacture our gear. We have been awarded patents on our drum and cymbal designs which virtually eliminate piezo failure. I personally guarantee that you will not find a better product at any price, and if you don't feel that way, I will give you your money back. If you are unable to get one of our products to perform to your satisfaction, or if anyone tells you that our products do not perform well, it is surely due to improper module setup. Although I am amazed at how much you guys do know, and the limited amount of technical support calls we take (which by the way is available 24 hrs. a day 7 days a week free of charge and for all manufacturers sound modules) it is amazing how many of you are using or have been using electronics to a limited degree of capability, and have accepted these limitations! Because of the multiple parameter adjustments on most modules, it is very easy to get things way out of whack. Likewise, if you know what you're doing, you can dial in a set to your specs in a few minutes. Our ACUPAD and HART PROFESSIONAL electronic drums have the most accurate, fast and even triggering (without "hot spots") of ANY drum available. Please check out the competition. Then check us out . I am sure that you will find our products to be superior to all others available. There are less expensive drums and companies that are similar, and some that are downright trying to copy our style and vibe. Don't be fooled by super low prices, you get what you pay for. Please read our product descriptions and you will see why it's well worth the couple extra dollars. Our TE3.2 drums are priced lower than the big R, because we only manufacture electronic percussion peripherals (things you beat with a stick). We do not manufacure a sound module. Electronics companies are very good at designing "brains" and spend most of their money doing so. The costs associated with R&D on the modules must be factored into the trigger devices also, so you pay more for the pads. If you are reading this, you are on a computer. How many of you have a computer peripheral (mouse, keyboard, hard drive, modem, printer, scanner, monitor) plugged in to your CPU (computer) that is not made the company that makes the CPU? You may have a Sony Trinitron Monitor because you like the way it looks and performs. It is hard to beat a Trinitron for brightness, quality, durability and accurate color. Hart Dynamics makes electronic drum "peripherals" which plug in to your Drum CPU (Module or "brain"). Our Research and Development team concentrates on building the absolute best and most innovative products in the marketplace and our original designs are only available through Hart Dynamics. What this means to you is a better Electronic Percussion Instrument at a lower price.

Thank you kindly for listening. We at HDI are dedicated to improving the state of our Art and have been doing it every day for over 15 years. Let our experience help you get the most out of your Electronic Percussion. I personally Guarantee you we will.

Peter Hart
