Many audio companies are now manufacturing active speaker systems. An active speaker system is a speaker which has the amplifier and crossover built-in. Active speaker systems are optimal for monitoring digital drum systems because the need for a mixer, amplifier, and crossover is eliminated. The outputs of the drum module can be plugged directly into the speaker, and levels, EQ, and panning can all be adjusted from the module. Here are some active systems from Mackie Designs. These speakers are the best sounding and most dependable speakers we have heard and tested for home, stage, and touring.
